hi I'm Paula with babies dog training have you ever wondered why trainers and handlers use the hand signals that they do most of the time it's just common sense so if I told my dog that I already taught to sit to sit and she didn't want to then what would happen can you stand please what would happen is I would gently pull up on the leash to get her head up higher and then it's going to be more comfortable to sit than to stand good girly Stan please good girl so the hand signal for sit is just bending my elbow and bringing my hand up because that's the same thing I would do when I'm pulling up on the leash you are a good girl huh and the same thing Stan please the hand signal for down if she's close to me if she won't down when I tell her I'm going to gently pull her down now this is a dog that already knows down you already taught them to down and now you need to reinforce it when you tell them and so I will gently pull down and close by it's going to be the same thing now dogs don't have the same Vision we have we can see clearer at a distance they cannot see distance dogs are hardwired to see movement and dogs are also better at night vision than we are but the objects 50 feet away that are not moving are not as clear to a dog as they are to us so because of that if I want my dog to down at a distance instead [Applause] my hand comes up because again they're hardwired to see movement and this is what they're going to see my hand signal for stand when I train my dogs to stand what I do is I have their neck snug against my leg and the treat is in the hand closest to them so my leash is in my opposite hand their neck can't move my hand comes out in order to get that treat they pop their butt up so sit please my same hand signal stand yeah so I'm doing the same thing but without words sit again hang on leash snug treat comes out and she has to pop up her butt in order to get the treat sit please or good girl so it's the same thing and then for come we're just doing the same thing you would use for anybody you're trying to motion from a distance you do this when you try to get somebody from a distance we're not allowed to give repeat commands in competition we can only do one so trainers are going to give a pretty exaggerated because you can only give one and the dog will see that so ready come here sit please stay yes good girl so okay again common sense for the Finish dash cam it all goes back to training a lot of people will lure their dog around so now when I want my dog to go to the right and behind me I use the same hand motion without the words when I need them to go to my left I lure when I first train but then for my hand signal it's the same thing nice job good girl and then when you want to train right here and then when you want to train non-obedience behaviors a lot of times I will still use the same movement I used when I train them so when I want my dog to go around and round when I first train we can get rid of this when I first train I'm luring my dog around okay so now the hand signal yes good girl it's just going to be the same thing so common sense try to use as similar of hand movements and arm movements as you would when you're training but most of all use a hand signal that you're going to remember right good job ...
