you're okay also it's okay [Music] this is oh so an extremely fearful two-year-old australian shepherd mix so this video is gonna hopefully help you guys with your fearful and extremely fearful dog i'm gonna go through everything with you they did first a private session then they left oso he is now here for the board and train at the end of this video you're gonna see right when they left i filmed the very first beginnings of this guy's board and train okay and we weren't sure if a board and train was right for him i told him listen there's risk to this his fear is so deep he may not get better quick there is some risk to it but he may get better quick and i'm going to explain to you the process that i'm going to take and that we're currently taking with this dog and i'm gonna explain to you the process that you should be taking if you can't send your dog away to a board and train which even if you could it doesn't necessarily mean you're gonna fix the fear we do it really well but i don't think most trainers honestly do it very well they took a they they're from la they took him to a trainer up there and the trainer said we're going to put a shot collar on him and he caller on him and we're going to turn it up until and it was just it was the most crazy response from a trainer one that i one of that i've ever heard she told me the story and she was just like i don't think that's right and i'm like no no no no yeah that's the opposite of right that is the worst possible thing for this dog is an e-collar but some trainers that's all they know how to do all right meeting prince um smelled the f the back of prince that when dogs don't meet a lot of dogs they smell unique parts of the dog i've told you that in videos many times so here's the deal with fear you guys it's this line okay it's this exposure versus overwhelming line you have to expose them to things so today during the session you're not going to see the whole session i boiled it down to six minutes but i take the leash he goes in the pool at some point he meets prince we go to the pasture we go in the off we do everything to see how he is in these certain situations and if he likes anything maybe he likes prince maybe he likes females maybe he likes me maybe he likes the water we want to find what makes him happy you want to find what makes your dog happy and you want to use that to your advantage all right here's the other thing right now look at him with me okay scared of me that does not mean that because he's scared of me i already tried to give him treats he doesn't want truth because he's scared of me does not mean oh my gosh it's you should just let him run away and never be near your joel that is not that is not how you deal with fear okay now am i being nice yes i'm just not letting him pull away from me as hard as he can this dog has never been this close to a like a new person a new man so i had oh they laughed i sent them away for 10 minutes so that's what's happening right now so this dog has never been five feet from a man a new man why is that because he'll never go fight food from a man so i had to put him on a leash and he says i want to leave and i go okay i'll let you leave a little bit but i'm not just going to let you run away because then what happens in the dog's brain is it goes oh my god i was five feet from that guy he wasn't even looking at me he wasn't correcting me he wasn't yelling at me and actually things weren't so bad you have to quote unquote force them to be a little close to you so that they can realize that nothing bad is going to happen to them there are good trainers who will sit on the ground and will take a fearful dog and just pull them into their lap these are good trainers now in the wrong hands that can be bad but when a good trainer does it it can be very good so that's kind of what i did there i didn't sit down and pull him into my lap i wasn't ready for that here we go again you can't just leave just because you feel like he'll run away 100 of the time probably for his whole life if he's not quote unquote forced to be close to me so now he's going i'm near this guy but it's okay this guy i'm not even looking at him look at my i'm letting him leave a little bit here i know he's going to back up into the fence so i'm letting him leave because eventually there and i'm like good boy good boy talking to him now we're going to go in the office and you're going to see how scared he is of flooring so watch him with this flooring he actually does this at their house too in the certain bathroom he's terrified of flooring this guy's he's scared guys it's it's real fear it's real real real deep fear all right we're gonna go now to the video that i made when they left i made it like five minutes after they left we have santa ana winds out here which means the humidity drops and i think it messed with my mic because if you think about there's a lot of static electricity when there's no humidity and it messed with my mic that's the only thing i can think of on why it happened and there's like this mic noise i'm up i apologize i'm trying to fix it if it's not the santa ana winds but you're going to hear this kind of noise it gets better a couple minutes into it but here's the original video and i'll keep you up to date on oso's progress okay guys this is oh so kaboy oh so oso is a scared dog legitimately terrified he's here for the board and train he may do a one-day board train he may do a three week boarding train we don't know because if he's not in in two days if he hasn't improved i don't want them wasting their money on the dog being 10 percent better at the end of three weeks that's not worth the money if he's 10 better at the end of two days that's worth the money because the end of three weeks he's 80 better he's 90 better this dog is scared of this flooring this dog is scared of dogs this dog is scared of people especially men he's two years old we just have to see how this is going to go fear is a when it's deep like it is with him he would not even walk on this floor coming in you have to go slow he will not take treats it needs to be a desensitization process and we need to find what he likes so he doesn't the dog thing he actually kind of likes dogs so we need to use dogs to build up his happiness and to use dogs probably to draw him different places into this room if we have his friends in here and he's out there and he doesn't want to come in we need to use dogs but he just needs to desensitize the owners are gone so we can't kind of use them as a crutch we need to find that line or you at home need to find your line with that scared dog of when to go you're okay this is something you can deal with and when to go okay you can back up we can we can get out of here and that's a tough one we want three steps forward one step back actually we want constant forward but there's gonna probably be times when we take one step back but we need three steps forward one step back we don't even want one step back but that's that's the goal oh so you want to go on a little walk he has big dogs i think he's bit people he doesn't want to bite anybody but if i cornered him he would bite me which i would never do oh so you want to go on a walk you want to go on a walk i'm just going to be nice guy i'm just going to be soft and slow and all that good stuff you won't gonna walk come on buddy will you open that door you wanna go out here you can see that he's scared of the ground that's right there's our good boy there's our good boy soft but you ca with these scared dogs you cannot just let them get away from scary things all the time because he'll never choose to come near me treats nothing he'll never just choose to do it so there has to be moments he might be scared of this thing the wind is a little weird i've talked to you guys about for it's santa anna's right now so it's this desert wind it trips dogs out trips people out people act different actually so sometimes with these scared dogs like look at as i shorten the leash and i get a little closer he's got to learn that this guy being two feet away from me is not a scary thing but i have to good now it's a loose leash he can't just run from everything okay and he's got to learn that it's this weird line of treats and let you get away but then there's moments of not letting you get away come on also come on come on he's from l.a so he's used to santa ana winds this is nothing he hasn't felt before if the dog came from uh northern california that would be a different story never felt these winds because the humidity drops not just wind it's a different kind of wind it's a desert wind it's a dry wind trips them out there's our good boy is he going to come off leash heck no i i may never get the guy if he comes off leash literally i may never get him so if at the next step is going to be dropping his leash so that i can at least get within six feet of him oh so's our good boy also is our good boy come on oh there's a little towards me but he's just trying to get to allison i think he likes allison more than me yeah so we're gonna use the camera person allison a lot he doesn't even like her that much or he would be going to her right now jeez and when he pulls he just pulls he says i'm getting out of here oh that's our good boy it's not that it's not hot i have a jacket on so he almost looks like he's like walking like it's hot he's just uh scared of everything everything so we gotta expose them to things you gotta expose your dog your scared dog to things and you gotta do it over and over again and you gotta hope that that desensitization sinks into their deep brain and sort of takes over that fear of those things it's deep it's deep that fear is deep in him come on come on my take might take a year this dog wouldn't go in the one of the bathrooms at their house for a year because of the flooring but if he gets over that flooring that's a that tells us that he can get over things come on buddy yes that's our good boy come on come on come on you're a good boy oh my gosh it's just going to take time there's no like quick fix to this the only quick fix with your dog or whatever the only quick fix uh there's no quick fix it's just a slow there's our good boy he's gonna pull me over it's just a slow desensitization process that really can't be sped up i don't think he is scared of this thing that really can't be sped up it's just finding that line of when to push them a little bit and when to let them retreat [Music] but most people most people air on the retreat side some men err on the you're fine get over it side and they can both be bad actually there's our good boy there's our good boy there's our good boy i don't love being in this position with him do i think he's gonna bite me no i also can't do anything if he does like i'm cross-legged but he's not gonna do anything but also is our good boy oso's our good boy i know buddy i know buddy all right guys fear you guys ask for fear videos time plus exposure plus challenging them to deal with fear time exposure and challenging them is kind of the answer if they if they love treats treats from the scary stimulus treats from the man treats from the vacuum cleaner okay oh you like allison i like that you like allison but yeah yeah yeah he's behind allison now you can back up allison and show him oh that's a hawk you hear that hawk come on good boy when you do pull him a little bit he gives in so that's important that's important that's our good boy okay this is good close as he's been on loose leash that's the challenging part he said back up i pulled him there's trainers and they're good trainers that literally take fearful just pull them right into them because they have to get over that fear it's like when i talk about in the water in the pool they will often never go in that one inch of water so i just pick them up and put them in one inch of water and then they go oh i didn't die when i came in this water he didn't die when i brought him right here now he's better but you got to be careful he can't always pull a dog in there's our good boy there's our good boy there's our good boy okay let's go back in the office then we'll be done i know you're okay you're okay you're good buddy come on so watch the progress i keep making videos i told them i oh there's our good boy there's our good boy come on we're gonna do this the nice way but we're gonna do it the nice way is do it on your own which the more learning is happening when they do it on their own but he's also got to get over the fear of this so we might have to pull him in because he's got to get over it because it's an irrational fear it's actually it is irrational i don't care that it's still fear it's irrational come on what a good boy there's our nice boy now now he's learning oh i won't fall or whatever his fear of the floor is he's learning that he um that is it is irrational he didn't know that before it was rational to him it's now he's realizing that it's irrational i mean they don't think in terms in that high of concepts but it's the same same deal okay guys follow oso's progress our goal is our goal is for him to play with dogs him to desensitize to the male trainers and hopefully get good with the male trainers and him to desensitize to the world that we have here and what is that world till today he had never been off leash in grass because they couldn't do it he's not great with dogs he'll run away if people come in so we want him playing in that pasture we want him swimming want to be exposed to things and we want it we want eventually clients to come out and be good with the clients especially males hey guys if this video has helped you please hit the subscribe button most of the views on my channel is not from subscribers like six sixty percent is not from subscribers i
