guys as you know I make watch videos I also make dog videos which you might not know I don't usually share them cross Channel but I think this is an important one for you to watch thanks for watching guys my name is Mark Goldberg I'm a dog trainer I'm a dog book author and I write books with the monks of new ski and I've been training dogs since I was 11 years old uh which was in 1969 and this is a very awful video to make but I would like to comment about Governor Christy gnome who shot and killed Cricket her puppy of 14 months a Wirehaired Pointer uh puppy uh yes at 14 months a large breed dog can still be considered puppy like and she shot and killed this dog for uh basically annoying her and um and and for embarrassing her now the governor says that she shot the dog because it was untrainable uh it had killed chickens it disrupted a hunt uh it was aggressive when she was grabbing things out of its mouth I.E the chickens now I'm not making this up uh Governor gnome has written a book which has been quoted recently I don't think the book is out but it but it will be coming out shortly and um she talks about this in in her own voice so uh I I think we're going to have to reserve a little bit of judgment until the book comes out but uh the book is now being quoted widely by the press and I have one thing to say to Governor Christy gome shame on you shame on you what what kind of human being are you what kind of person are you what what kind of message are you sending to the citizens of your state South Dakota by taking a puppy out back to the gravel pit and and shooting your own dog because you didn't have the wherewithal to train that dog because your ego was too big because your feelings were hurt because your heart is a shriveled little lump of coal uh the the reality is is that millions of people all across the country train their dogs not to kill chickens and I've done it many times and I could have helped you and so could the average competent dog trainer of which there are many in your state I know a couple I I I I don't understand it I think what we're talking about is power gone wild I think we're talking about ego and uh we're talking about somebody who didn't deserve to have a dog in the first place but it's it's extremely troubling now cruelty to animal laws vary from state to state and I'm not an attorney but I can tell you that in many many jurisdictions it is not legal to to euthanize your own dog with a gun uh that is not true everywhere so I really can't comment as to whether she broke the law or not uh the dog in fact was her personal property but the dog is not a property in the way that a computer or a cell phone or a car is the dog is a living breathing feeling animal given to us by God with emotions and I'm going to put it out here right now a soul the reason that we can train dogs in the first place the whole reason that the dog is a trainable animal is because they choose to allow themselves to be trained by human beings they love us to the point as a species where they are willing to submit to these ridiculous commands that we ask them to do things like not killing chickens which to a dog who is untrained Governor seems entirely normal it seems like exactly what they should do and in fact you you didn't buy a bichan you bought a hunting dog so the fact that she has prey drive should not have surprised you you should simply have trainer it's not hard to do uh at the risk of sounding self-serving the monks of new SK and I wrote an entire book on how to do it and and as I said earlier any competent dog trainer could have helped you and I'm sure there would have been plenty if you were if if you found a bullet cheaper than dog training then I'm sure there is any number of dog trainers in your immediate vicinity who would helped you for free shame on you this is a disgusting act but the reason that I'm making this video today is not so much to scold the governor to condemn the governor I think the people of America are going to are going to do that work for me but the reason that I want to talk to you about this today is because I don't want anybody out there to think well she's a person of means she's a person of power and of influence she knows a lot of people and if this was her solution maybe it should be my solution too don't don't be like Christy noan don't be like the governor of South Dakota don't shoot your dog don't hurt your dog don't even throw your dog away um by taking it to the shelter when you get unmanageable Behavior are are there some dog behaviors that can be dangerous and that really need to be uh dealt with on a on a serious level sure there are I can just assure you that chasing chickens and pheasants is not one of those behaviors it's a very very rare dog who needs to be rehomed for behavioral reasons particularly when it's just following the instincts of its breed because it hasn't been trained to do those instincts correctly don't don't take her lead don't be like Christie do the right thing train your dog if you don't have the money to hire a professional dog trainer there are any number of park districts and community centers which will help you do that if you can't afford the $20 for a dog training book not a problem go to the library they they're there free if you're on the verge of shooting your dog and you don't know what to do about it contact me and uh and I will connect you with somebody in your area who can help you economically if you're a person of means and you want to send your dog away for boarding school and have that all done for you we do it uh we do it um and boarding school can be a great solution we we we train dogs in a loving environment but we get we get good results but admittedly that's that's that's not cost free but I can absolutely point you at a couple of $20 books that will help you or a library card you be able to train your dog virtually for free don't be like the governor don't kill your dog don't hurt your dog don't even be frustrated um if you've reached a point of frustration where you just don't know what to do with your dog train them train them the most beautiful and profound relationships that you could ever humanly build with a dog come from training because it brings the mind of the human and the mind of the dog together in a meaningful way so that you can meet each other halfway you wouldn't believe how many chicken Killers can be trained to just fetch a ball or a dummy instead or who can be trained to engage in their instincts and go hunting but in a in a meaningful way following the rules of the hunt Governor you not only let down your your your people you not only let let down everybody who voted for you and all the people of your state but You' let down dog owners everywhere and most of all Cricket you killed cricket and I I think that is just tragic and inhuman don't be like the governor uh look she's a powerful woman I'm sure it's not easy to become the governor of a state like South Dakota particularly as a woman so I I really admire uh a lot of what she has accomplished but this this was an inhuman act and I hope that you will if you're going to emulate the governor I hope you emulate her better side but this certainly was not it okay I am Mark Goldberg and if you have problems you can call me I'm help
