they're looking for do you need to be the single best dog trainer on the the planet to be able to be a professional dog trainer absolutely not but you do need to be able to offer high quality services the good thing is is you'll never be done with mastering your craft mastering your craft is a lifelong Endeavor and you will always be learning but there is a Tipping Point in skill set that can take you just from a decent owner into somebody that could charge people for those Services now a good thing is that you can find this out quite quickly in terms of would somebody pay you for the help you can offer and you can do this by working for free you can start asking friends and family if you can help them with their dogs if there's anything that they're struggling with is there any value that you can bring completely free of charge and then after the session after you've done the work after you've helped them out just ask them to be brutally honest and say would that be something that you would pay for if the answer is yes and that is somebody that you trust and believe is giving you an honest answer then that is a great bit of feedback once you've done that three four five six times if you're getting yeses every single time that is a clear indication that you are able to provide the value that people would expect if they were paying for it if not that's fine keep practicing keep learning keep building that skill set and try again in another few months and you will absolutely be able to get there so once we've answered yes to the first question and we know that we are good enough to be able to take that plunge and start that Journey the next question you have to ask yourself is how are people going to know you exist and that's really important because it doesn't matter if you are the single best old trainer on the planet if you want to be a professional dog trainer you have to have people know that you're there people have to know about your services for them to book in with you and pay you to do so and when we're adding that professional word in front of dog trainer that is a key piece of the puzzle so how are people going to know you exist what is going to be your marketing and advertising strategy are you going to stick to local good old-fashioned marketed of flyer people business cards getting out there talking to people Word of Mouth have you got real good networks of friends and family that could help you in those Endeavors and for many people that is more than enough to build a great local dog training business but there are also some of the newer marketing and advertising strategies you could build an Instagram account you can build your Facebook page you can start a YouTube channel make sure your website is spot on maybe run some advertising online to drive people to your website and on your website you're going to help people understand how good you are and that you are there ready willing able and capable to provide them question I want you to ask yourself is how are you going to make money now that might seem obvious I'm just going to charge people for training their dogs but you do need to look into that in more detail what are you going to charge what exactly are your services going to be how many of those Services can you offer per day or per week and if you only filled half of them would that be enough to sustain your lifestyle these are the kind of questions that you need to ask when we're thinking about money so are you going to be doing things like 60 or 90 minute one-to-one consultations are you going to do board and train programs are you going to do dog walking Services if dog walking is it going to be one-to-one walks are you going to do pack walks are you going to offer daycare which one of those things are you going to offer and then how much are you going to charge what are people in your local area charging and how can you find a nice place within that these are all questions that
