so regardless of the methodology that you end end up choosing to use to train your dog and there's a lot of competing methodologies right dog trainers only have certain options to influence dogs we have exercise because a tired dog is a good dog like so if you get up in the morning and you exercise this dog before you go to work obviously he's going to have a lot easier time settling down and being good at work we have structured positive reinforcement activities if the dog is big busy doing the right thing it cannot be doing the wrong thing your kids can't be running track and smok and crack at the same time okay we have Environmental Management this is a young dog he cannot misbehave in the dove field if he's not in the dovefield he can't misbehave with other people in the dovefield if he's only in the dove field with you then we have correction correction is a pretty simple concept it's like the old doctor joke you go to the doctor and you say Hey doctor it hurts when I do this and the doctor says don't do that wait so for all of the all of the niche building in the dog business where people are trying to you know say that they have a proprietary methodology every everybody has the same four things to work with exercise structured positive reinforcement activity physical management and correction and that's it that's all there is to it so you guys have chosen to go a little bit more of a traditional route because of the lifestyle that you lead you seem to be comfortable telling the dog well dog you have a nice house you have free medical you have lot of love and attention the least you can do is come when I call you stay where I put you and have good manners from the other people in the office's perspective or from the people in The Field's perspective okay so if you choose to go a traditional route then everything's pretty much the same except what you're whispering in your dog's ear is that the behavior that you expect is not optional does that make sense we're still doing all the fun positive stuff we're still doing all the treats we're still doing all the retrieving we're still petting and loving on them we're just kind of whispering in their ear and letting them understand that we're oldfashioned parents and we're not going to be embarrassed we're going to be a little bit like uh egocentric with our expectations you know dog's going to is a reflection of you and you're not going to let the dog reflect on you poorly and it makes sense it makes perfect sense to some people people not everybody there's a lot of process oriented dog trainers in the world and uh you know they're not particularly interested in the results they're interested in the process and if that's you you're still going to end up where you want to go we're all going to end up with good dogs as long as we keep moving in the right direction the difference is some people are going to end up there in this kind of time frame and some people are going to end up there in this type of time frame it's really up to you but none of it has a substantial advantage over the other other than your own mindset ...
