so when it comes to stopping reactive Behavior we have to start by understanding this basic principle that it is our job as our dogs loving leaders to be able to communicate effectively to them not just what it is that we do want from them but we have to also be able to communicate clearly what it is that we don't want from them we can't have one without the other if we want to have success with our dogs and when it comes to fixing reactive Behavior the reason that I'm able to have the Transformations I'm able to have with reactivity is because we have mastered the system of being able to clearly communicate to the dog you need to stop doing this but we want you to do this instead but before we break down my freep process into fixing reactivity there is a little bit of understanding about what reactivity is that we have to be aware of when it comes to reactivity for me it is simply our dogs making a decision for themselves when it comes to them seeing the stimuli of usually another dog and the reason that they think that they have to make those decisions for themselves is because there is nobody in their life making those decisions for them our dogs are pack animals and dogs want to be led they want to understand what the rules and boundaries and expectations are and those rules boundaries and expectations need to be clearly communicated to them by a loving leader so yes we're about to look at the freestep process that I take to fixing reactivity but it has to be with the understanding that that is built on us being add dogs loving leader so whil yes we are going to focus on this process I want to challenge you to make sure that you're always trying to evolve your leadership skills because leadership is love so step one is to challenge the behavior we have to communicate to the dog that they are doing something that is unacceptable that is inappropriate that is dangerous that is scary that is our job because we brought the dog into our life we have a duty of care therefore to keep them safe and under control reactivity being a aggressive categorized Behavior we absolutely must challenge that behavior and communicate to them that it isn't acceptable step two is redirecting them to the desirable Behavior by challenging the behavior we have achieved what we talked about earlier in terms of helping them understand what it is that we don't want from them but we never just stop there we then need to communicate to them what it is that we do want from them so it's our job to redirect them to making the appropriate Choice the desirable Choice the choice that we want from them step three is to then reinforce that better decision so we've challenged the bad decision we've then redirected them to the good decision and now we're going to praise and reward it so we can clearly communicate don't do this but do this instead now when it comes to reactivity the best way to do this is to go through my tuneup drill I use lead pressure fundamentals to be able to challenge the negative behavior we then redirect into the appropriate Behavior which is loose lead walking and paying attention engaging with me which then allows us to reward that desirable Behavior as well now if you want to know the exact specifics of these things I've done a completely free training because it's a little bit more complicated and detailed than we can cover in a short YouTube video like this the training is completely free of charge there'll be a link in the description box below so if you want to go and take this to the next step level up your leadership skills as well as the exact principles of how you can do this yourself at home as well Link in the description and I can't wait to see you over there ...
