all right so when and I just got back from our first walk together we were probably out for like 45 minutes or something and it went really well so she was pulling on leash a little bit She chased some cars or tried to and she was barking at some dogs but that's not only are those things fine I actually like to see that because this struggling monstrous dog that was dropped off to me 8 days ago or whatever was acting like a dumbass pet dog that's a beautiful thing dumbass pet dog is a great place to start training because she's acting natural and free and she's not afraid to test things and show me things she's wrong about some of those things but if you know how to train dogs you can eliminate bad behaviors like that really easily at any given point so there's no rush I'm really happy to see how she was acting with me so I figured now was the time that I was seeing that attitude that spark out of her now would be a good time to start enforcing my will so I started enforcing known obedience commands just a recall an implied stay you can't leave until I let you go and sometimes I would mix in a sit and it again really smooth this is a really simple way the walk I use play too but the walk is actually my favorite way with no toys no food there's no rewards it's just we're out together sometimes you just kind of have to do what I tell you to do and then we carry about our way like we have a good time and I think that's a really important precedent to set with a dog it's a really good foundational element to how we we'll operate going forward especially when things get challenging I don't think any of this is controversial maybe it is I don't know where I think there are problems with a lot of training approaches there's a serious order of operations issue when I talk to a lot of trainers because people like to ask for my opinion about cases they have and I get people from all over the country and all over the world and I see the same problems over and over and over again the same philosophy being manifested in like a dozen or so different problems but they all mean the same thing and I'll explain what I mean so I'll ask the trainer okay like what's the situation with your dog and it's the typical thing it's like stranger danger I've got this dog in here he'll attack people and then run away or he maybe he won't run away he'll pursue them but he hates new people like he can't meet people he can't be around people he's just totally made up his mind that people are terrible and I'll ask okay what are the first things that you're doing with this dog and the things that I hear are like well first we start with a threshold drill at the crate door he can't leave the crate until I tell him and he has to leave the way that I tell him to then we go to the door and I start I establish a threshold at the door you can't leave the door until I tell you and you have to do it you can't be too excited you have to do it the way I say and then we'll go outside and this is where we're we're very positive first I've got my clicker and my food and I teach them out of place hey you have to go up on place and then I give him food right so that's that's awesome and people are confused when they go to explain I can't get the dog out of this psychological knot like he's doing all of these things for food I'm doing low-level e-collar stem conditioning I'm doing all of the right traditional things but the dog still is a mess he's still angry he's still depressed he's still reactive he still doesn't trust me here's the reality at the beginning of the program when you were thinking about tools and clicker conditioning and differential reinforcement and healing that dog was sitting there thinking of reasons to not like you because he didn't come in at step one square one dumb dumb pet dog he came in at Square -2 where his prophecy is being fulfilled people have motives I have to be skeptical of them they hide things from me everybody's trying to manipulate me and that's immediately what the training did immediately like right out of the gate you proved him right where are you supposed to go from there you're kind of screwed you might as well call off the program why not get the dog like if you look at what I've done with when I posted a lot of videos on here on Facebook and on Instagram and on my patreon if you want to watch the full first two days that I had with her there were no expectations of anything she doesn't owe me anything she doesn't know me at that point you know what I'm saying like how dare I tell you to down if you don't even know my intentions it just doesn't make any sense anyways now we're getting poured on so I'm going to cut the camera stay tuned more wind to come peace out ...
